Homemade Marshmallows

Debbie and I spent the day making marshmallows. Yep, that's right...homemade marshmallows. When we shared our plans with "some other" family members, they didn't hid their snickers and the jokes begin instantly. Jokes about how we would get stuck to the walls of the kitchen...we would have to call one of them to help us. Really now...IF we did get stuck to the walls by our rising homemade marshmallow fluff...would we really call one of them to help us??

I am happy to say that we made the marshmallows with out much of a sticky mess. And they were SO GOOD! However, the day didn't go down without its share of giggles...FROM US. I am going to be so bold as to share just a couple of them...
  • The sugar and water are on the stove. We are watching intently as...nothing happens. We decide we should stir it in case it could scotch. Another 5 minutes goes by of constant stirring. Still...nothing. Oh! It helps if we have the burner on!
  • We are almost done. The marshmallow is fluffy and yummy! Debbie mentions not having lunch. I grab a individual pizza out of the freezer to make her. Pop it in the microwave and when it beeps take it out. Much to my surprise, there isn't much of a pizza there any more. More like a plate full of burnt cheese and a little piece of dried up bread. What in the world? I have never made marshmallows EVER and they turn out great. I have made those little pizzas more times than I can count - in the microwave no less - and it ends up completely inedible. I still don't understand...

Birthday at the Rain Forest

Summer's pick for a "birthday party" this year was the Rain Forest Cafe. We met family there on her 4th birthday and she had this yummy chocolate dessert that has had her talking about it ever since. So we arranged to meet family there again to celebrate...

The moving animals inside left my brave kids wide eyed...
Two of Summer's favorite people...The beloved cake...
After our very long lunch, we had some fun around Downtown Disney...After Downtown Disney, we made an evening trip to Sea World. I was way too exhausted to get any good pics, but it was a great end to a big day.

MOSH - The History

I have always loved history, so I was expecting to enjoy this. I had no idea when we started in the history section, however (probably because I didn't stop to read any signs) that it was specific Jacksonville history. That made it even more fascinating to me!

Starting with the Indians and going through the 50's...

Arrowheads and other things...
old things...
No touch...
Chloe would just randomly sit down in front of the things - like she belonged there. She was cracking us up...
Through out were replicas of rooms in middle class homes in Jacksonville during that time period...
Of course, Chloe spotted the baby...
Connor found a boat...
I thought this was interesting...
Before...
After...
They had a little old town all set up...
So men and older ladies could wear hats?
And women could smoke, spit and use bad language?
Summer saw this and said, "What is THAT?" Before we told her we made her take a picture with it...

(I guess it means you are getting old when things you used to have now are in a museum.)
Chloe had to pose by the typewriter too...

So different from today...
Not that much different from today....
We passed by quite a few of these and I waited for Summer to ask another "What is that?", but she never did. Not being able to contain myself any longer, I asked her. She quickly replied, "Big CDs I guess..."
I just took the kids down to the Florida Theater over the summer...however the sign out front read "Winnie the Pooh"...not Elvis...
So was that kinda neat...or am I just showing my geeky side?
